Introduction
Evnroll has been designing putters for almost a decade while Evnroll’s founder, Guerin Rife started building clubs over 25 years ago. Although they aren’t the biggest name in golf, they are known for high quality putters with professional wins on almost every major tour in the world, both men and women.
In 2025, Evnroll jumped on the zero torque train and added their own spin and unique technology to craft the all new Z line of putters. While it seems everyone is following the trend of zero torque, Evnroll offers some unique characteristics to theirs to set themselves apart from the competition. I got my hands on the Evnroll ZERO Z5 Hatchback and took it out for a test drive.
Looks
The first thing I noticed when I picked up the Evnroll ZERO Z5 Hatchback was its size. While the footprint is fairly large, it appears even larger in part because there is no lowered flange. The entire head is coated in a matte black with only the branding and alignment aids in white to provide some nice contrast.
Speaking of alignment, each one of Evnroll’s series of zero torque putters has a consistent set of alignment lines that contain a set of wide grooves in between. The lines are about a ball in width and aim towards the target with a single sight dot in the middle. This did make it easy to know when the ball was setup directly in the middle of the face.
On the sole, there are two replaceable weight ports on the heel and the toe while the face hosts Evnroll’s patented SweetFace technology, which I will discuss later on.
Sound & Feel
The SweetFace design has always produced a sound and feel that I have gravitated towards, and that hasn’t changed with the Evnroll ZERO Z5 Hatchback. Each good swing produces a muted “knock” at impact. Less than perfect strikes are higher in pitch and deliver a “tick” sound. No matter where I struck the ball, it always sounded solid.
The feel paired well with the sound. Each swing felt easy and balanced while the only big difference between great and average strikes was the feedback. Anything out towards the toe or in on the heel could be felt in the hands whereas center strikes felt more muted. I could always tell when I didn’t hit it well by the feel more than the sound.
Performance
One of the biggest questions I faced when I started reviewing the Evnroll ZERO Z5 Hatchback was how it differed from every other zero torque putter on the market today. While it shares the same face balancing and center of gravity placement seen in almost every zero torque putter, Evnroll separates itself with three standout features – a reverse offset hosel, its proprietary SweetFace milling, and customizable weighting.
Starting with the hosel, one of the biggest hurdles for players adapting to zero torque putters is getting used to their unconventional look. Evnroll solves this with a clever reverse offset hosel design. By entering through the heel but angling the shaft toward the center of the head, the Evnroll ZERO Z5 Hatchback maintains a more traditional appearance while delivering that zero torque performance. This makes it far more enticing for players exploring this technology for the first time—or for those who just don’t want to give up their favorite mallet headcovers.
The purpose of the reverse offset hosel design is that the face stays square to the path and resists twisting – essentially making it a “point and shoot” design. If you prefer something with toe hang and like to sling your putter face open to close, Tiger style, then the zero torque concept probably isn’t for you.
As for the rest of us mortals with more of a straight back, straight through stroke, the Evnroll ZERO Z5 Hatchback could be a game changer. I fall squarely into this camp, and it didn’t take me long to feel at home with the ZERO Z5. Historically, I have battled a left miss but Evnroll’s ZERO Z5 center of gravity design helped counteract that. It stabilized the face, nearly eliminated my tendency to shut it, and did so without forcing me to alter my stroke. For the first time in a while, I have a putter that immediately earned a spot in my bag.
If you’ve read any of my Evnroll reviews before, you’ll know I have long been a fan of the SweetFace milling that Guerin Rife incorporates into all his putters. The Evnroll ZERO Z5 Hatchback is no different, using a 100% milled face that reduces the effects of a poorly struck putt which is especially noticeable on short to mid-range putts.
Finally, this putter offers adjustability. The Evnroll ZERO Z5 Hatchback comes standard at 375 grams (34-inch model) with two 27.5-gram sole weights. Evnroll offers interchangeable weights up to 42.5 grams per port, allowing players to dial the total weight up to 405 grams—making it one of the heaviest zero torque putters on the market. This adjustability provides players of all levels better control over feel and finding the right setup for their game.
Taking all these features together, the Evnroll ZERO Z5 Hatchback delivers a uniquely balanced blend of tradition and innovation. It’s stable, customizable, and surprisingly easy to adapt to. At $449, it’s not cheap—but for players seeking a zero-torque option that looks familiar and performs flawlessly, it’s worth every penny.
