Buyer’s guide for 2026 drivers: The smart way to shop for a new big stick
As is the case every year, there are many driver offerings in the 2026 lineup — but perhaps you’re asking yourself, “Do I really need an upgrade, and, if so, how can I be sure I’m buying the right driver for my game?” Here are the 5 most important things to think about before buying a new big stick for 2026. — Jake Morrow, content manager for gear and new equipment
Will your game benefit from upgrading to a 2026 driver?
In a word, yes. I think there is room to improve across the board this year. We saw plenty of great drivers in 2025, but ever major clubmaker has elevated its game this year, a few brands in particular. TaylorMade changed its drivers more than they are getting credit for, and the new ultra-fittable Qi4D Core model is a rising superstar. Cobra, with its OPTM line, took a giant step forward with its new POI story of forgiveness, and is definitely worth testing, no matter your ability. Callaway is faster than ever, and the Ping G440K has already proven to be a game-changer. I firmly believe that if you haven’t upgraded in a while, or you weren’t fully dialed in with your 2025 combination, you can find improvement in 2026’s offerings.
Where’s the best place to browse and test new drivers?
The best answer is always going to be to go get fit. That may feel like a daunting task to some, but the good news is there are a couple of levels to choose from. You can start with a simple demo experience at a PGA Tour Superstore or other local retailer if you’re just looking to test out options and see what might stand out to you. Or you can take one step up and book something like a PGATSS Studio Fitting experience, which allows you to get more specific about how you are setting up the driver by being able to change out shafts and possibly head weights as well. Finally, if you’re ready to fully dive in or really want to know if a 2026 option can beat your current gamer, you can book a Tour-level fitting with an expert fitter like True Spec Golf. They’ll be able to give you the most in-depth look at your equipment and really see how much the new gear can shine.
Are fittings generally folded into the cost of a driver purchase?
If you’re going for a high-level fitting, you should expect to pay for that expertise on top of the cost of the driver. You’re paying for the fitter’s time, not for the final product. So if you do choose to buy the fitted club, the cost of that fitting may not be folded into the cost of the new club, depending on your local fitter. I always encourage investing in a proper fitting; it’s worth it for the education alone.
Is it risky to buy a driver without demoing it?
This can be really tricky. It is possible to buy the right combo even when you’re not able to demo, though I highly encourage you to find a way to at least test a few options. Drivers this year are more expensive than ever, and a tank of gas is probably worth hitting a demo. If you simply can’t here’s my (albeit limited) advice:
Do your research! Watch our videos on each driver, send some DMs to your favorite gear creators, or pop a question into a weekly Q&A. There’s more information available now than there ever.
Contact customer service of the retailer you are buying from. Second Swing Golf, for one, handles these kinds of calls really well. They offer all the manufacturers’ stock options, and they can help answer questions over the phone about how to buy properly. If you’re looking for aftermarket options, I’d suggest contacting Fairway Jockey and having a quick chat with their team about what you currently play and what you may want to buy in 2026.
Can you trade in your old driver?
Yes! If the pricing of 2026’s offerings is daunting, remember that you’re always able to trade in your old driver. Play It Again Sports is a great resource if you have a location in your area, and Second Swing offers an easy trade-in process through its website and sometimes will dole out bonuses if you’re buying a new driver as well.
Anything else you should know?
Not every player will see a benefit in a new driver from what they are currently playing and that’s okay. I like to say it’s always worth a demo, but you may find that you’re okay sticking with the one you have. I usually tell people that if you’re playing a last-gen driver, there’s likely a chance that you’re able to stick with what you’ve got. But if you’re playing with something a couple of generations or more older, it’s probably time to give it a refresh, or at least see what potential benefits you can find.
Okay, now on to the fun stuff! Here are all the best new drivers for 2026…

Callaway Quantum Triple Diamond
Callaway Quantum Triple Diamond Custom Driver
View Product
THE BASICS: The Triple Diamond remains the tour preferred, 450-cc, low-spin head option. While previous TD heads were fade-biased, the Quantum TD starts in a more neutral configuration with an 8 g weight in the back toward the heel, with the option to make it more fade-biased by moving that weight to the toe. Like the Max, there is also a forward weight port to adjust swingweight or front-to-back CG. Once again, the 360-carbon chassis saves weight in the Triple Diamond head, allowing it to be redistributed elsewhere. The neutral weight setting allows the driver to perform more like the popular Triple Diamond Tour Draw head that was introduced last season. Ideally suited for high-speed and high-spin players looking for a more neutral start line than previous Callaway Triple Diamond drivers. | Read full review here

COBRA DRIVERS
With its new OPTM line of drivers, fairway woods and hybrids, Cobra has tackled the challenge of building more accurate clubs by focusing on the Product of Inertia (POI), rather than Moment of Inertia (MOI). While MOI looks only at a club’s resistance to twisting across one plane (either front to back or heel-to-toe). But clubs exists in three dimensions that all interact., and POI takes into account all three dimensions, which has helped Cobra identify shapes and weighting for the OPTM line to increase accuracy. “MOI is still important, but POI is the next frontier in terms of overall accuracy,” Jose Miraflor, Cobra VP of product architecture and consumer connections, said in a release.

MIZUNO DRIVERS
The JPX One woods feature an industry-first Nanoalloy face. Nanoalloy might draw comparisons to carbon fiber, but it is actually a material from the nylon family that is used in Mizuno’s baseball and softball bats, and also in graphite wood shafts. The material has a unique property, which allows it to be firm at rest and flexible when put under tension. That means it can have more spring effect when it impacts a golf ball, producing more ball speed and a larger area from where you can get those ball speeds. “This didn’t feel like an evolution of anything we’d done before,” Mizuno Director of Golf Chris Voshall told GOLF. “It felt like the start of something completely new.”

PING DRIVERS
Ping calls the new-for-2026 G440 K its most forgiving driver ever. The new Dual Carbonfly Wrap crown and sole, a new acoustic rib structure and an adjustable backweight for the first time on this model, the driver delivers north of 10.4k MOI in certain configurations. But, because of a lower CG, it doesn’t come at the expense of speed and high spin. “High MOI is important and will benefit all golfers on the planet,” Ping Director of Product Design Ryan Stokke told GOLF. “But you do need to pair high MOI with ideal CG location.”
READ OUR FULL REVIEW OF PING’S G440 K DRIVER
With the G440 drivers, which were introduced in 2025, designers have created the lowest CG ever in a Ping driver thanks to the CarbonFly Wrap in the crown of all three models. Ping also lowered CG through the use of a new internal technology called Free Hosel, which freed up 5g of weight in the high heel section of the driver. That mass was then reallocated to the back weight of the driver; Ping says each saved gram that can be put in the back weight translates to one percent higher MOI. The G440 line also has a shallower face to help lower the CG even more and make the face thinner and more flexible. With the lower CG helps the drivers launch higher than their predecessors, meaning a player gets more launch out of the same loft, or go down in loft to get more speed if they are already in an optimal launch window.

THE BASICS: Compared to the G440 Max, the K has a longer profile with a shallower face to pull the CG as deep and as low as possible. A new Dual Carbon Wrap also allowed the reallocation of extra weight low and deep. For the first time, a 32 g backweight allows left-to-right adjustability with the highest MOI setting being in the “fade” position. In testing by our partners at True Spec Golf, the 440 K registered the highest speed (170.3 mph) of any driver tested by our high-speed (116 mph) fitter. It’s also available in a lighter HL build. The 440 K has a unique ability where it will fit both high-speed players looking to play a more forgiving head without spinning too much or sacrificing speed as well as game improvement players looking for all the forgiveness and launch they can get. | Read full review here

PXG DRIVERS
The big tech story with PXG Lightning is the Frequency Tuned Face and pronounced ridge on the bottom of each model. Essentially what PXG did is find the optimal frequency that the clubhead vibrates at to create a marriage between face flexion, ball compression, sound and feel. The ridge plays its part by stiffening up the carbon fiber sole plates in each model so that they don’t negatively affect the overall modal frequency. By finding this perfect frequency, PXG was able to optimize speed and launch off the face so that a fitted golfer sees the most performance possible out of Lightning metalwoods. This goes for the two fairway models and the hybrid as well. These drivers sound cool, too. There’s no piercing ting, but rather a nice crack that’s satisfying when you catch one right in the center.

SRIXON DRIVERS
The ZXi driver lines shares a new face technology called i-FLEX, which is a face thickness pattern that has a thinner center area with thicker heel and toe regions, resulting in greater energy transfer for longer shots. Also, in certain models, this new technology is made of a new titanium called Ti72S, which, according to Srixon, is stronger, lighter, more flexible and more durable than face materials in previous iterations. On the inside, ZXi drivers include a latticework star-shaped Star Frame under the razor-thin titanium crown for more structural integrity. “The flexibility of these clubs enables a more efficient transfer of energy, which, in turn, generates more power at impact,” said Jeff Brunski, Srixon’s VP of research and development.

TAYLORMADE DRIVERS
The name Qi4D continues TaylorMade’s Qi “Quest for Inertia” naming convention, but the “4D” represents the infusion of speed with the four dimensions of distance: face, head, shaft and fitting. The Qi4D is the fifth generation of TaylorMade’s carbon face technology, and it’s been refined with a tighter roll radius to achieve more consistent spin when you miss up and down the face. The makeup of the 60 layers of carbon fiber was also tweaked, allowing the Qi4D to have more than 50 percent of the face be high COR (where the fastest ball speeds come from) for the first time. This was also aided by a new and improved Speed Pocket design to help with low strikes on the face.

THE BASICS: While the Max head is no longer at the 10k inertia threshold, TaylorMade says finding the appropriate fit will more than make up for a slight decrease in MOI. “A perfectly fit driver can showcase more performance gains than a slight increase in inertia or a small year-on-year head improvement,” Bazzel said. The collar of the Qi4D Max is made of forged and machined aircraft-grade 7075 aluminum, lighter than titanium, which allows the addition of forward and rear TAS weight ports for the first time. Titleist GT1*
Titleist GT1 Custom Driver
View Product
THE BASICS: The biggest leaps in tech from the GT2, 3 and 4 drivers (below) — the Seamless Thermoform Crown, made from a Proprietary Matrix Polymer (PMP) — helped Titleist designers lower the center of gravity (CG) to boost launch. With the weight distributed properly — GT1 has the deepest CG in the entire GT family — the shape was also refined to make it more aerodynamic, helping the slow-to-moderate clubhead speed player swing it faster. Speed Ring and VFT (Variable Face Thickness) technology from the initial GT drivers was also optimized for the GT1 chassis to bring consistent ball speeds across the face. With that deep CG, GT1 allows players to square the face easier, which leads to it being slightly more draw-biased when compared to the other GT models. | Read full review here

Titleist GT2 Custom Driver
GT2 — Speed & Forgiveness Across The Face
For players who don’t always find the center of the face and need the stability of a high-MOI driver without sacrificing speed.
Speed & Forgiveness Across The Face
Delivering impressive distance from any impact point, GT2 extracts maximum performance through forgiving design. Get the stability and added confidence of a high-MOI driver without sacrificing speed.
Seamless Thermoform Crown
A reimagined ultra-lightweight design, born from a new Proprietary Matrix Polymer. The tunable acoustic properties of this unique composite allow Titleist engineers to realize new material gains while maintaining our signature sound and feel. All wrapped in a clean look that inspires total confidence.
Split Mass Construction
GT2 delivers a powerful balance of forgiveness and speed thanks to a breakthrough in internal weighting. Mass is shifted to the back of the clubhead to increase MOI for better stability, while also pushing weight low and forward to optimize speed and spin. The result is a driver that frees you to swing with confidence.

THE BASICS: The GT2 is still considered the high-launch, low-spin bomber in the group. Boasting the deepest CG in the line, it’s designed for golfers who need extra stability on off-center misses. The head profile is longer front-to-back and its face is marginally shallower. The traditional pear shape more closely resembles that of GT3, which should come as welcome news for those who’ve waffled between GT2 and GT3 in the past. An interchangeable weight in the rear dials in headweight and swingweight for a custom feel. | Read full review here
Titleist GT3*
Titleist GT3 Custom Driver
GT3 – Speed-Tuned Distance & Control
GT3 offers Titleist’s boldest combination of power and personalization. With a speed-tuned design that allows you to precisely match performance to your most frequent contact location, you can make your biggest drives even bigger while taking total control over flight and shaping.
For players with a relatively consistent impact location, GT3 offers a precisely adjustable CG Track to max out distance and directional control.
A breakthrough in internal weighting unlocks longer drives and enhanced directional control in GT3. The Adjustable CG Track now sits closer to the face for more dynamic CG control, while additional discretionary mass is pushed to the back of the club to maintain optimal stability through impact.
Advanced Aerodynamics
GT3 features a new raised tail contour that represents a dramatic shift in driver aerodynamics. Previously impossible to execute due to design constraints, this advanced shaping results in a driver that swings faster while still providing optimal CG control.
View Product
THE BASICS: The repositioned Adjustable CG Track in GT3 features five possible weight locations (H2, H1, N, T1, T2) that get the CG closer in line to the golfer’s strike location tendencies. The profile appears more compact and pear-shaped with a face that sits taller than its predecessor. | Read full review here
Titleist GT4*
Titleist GT4 Custom Driver
GT4 – Exceptional Low-Spin Performance
GT4 is Titleist’s most aggressive spin-reducing driver ever. With an adjustable forward and aft CG that can dramatically drop RPMs to optimal levels, this driver packs immense power into a compact, player-preferred shape for total confidence over every drive.
For players losing distance due to spin rates above 3,000 RPMs, GT4 offers Titleist’s most aggressive spin-reducing driver.
Split Mass Construction
An evolution in internal weighting enables even greater spin-killing performance in GT4. By pushing the mass distribution farther apart, the clubhead maintains back-weighted stability while simultaneously driving CG forward for our greatest spin reduction to date.
Refined Aerodynamics
Material improvements in construction allow GT4 to feature a more compact 430cc clubhead with player-preferred shaping to help neutralize spin and generate incredibly consistent distance.
Dual Spin-Control Settings
Knock down spin with the twist of a wrench. GT4 features two weight positions to customize your club’s performance. Set the weight forward for the most aggressive reduction in spin. Set it back for a balanced blend of speed, stability and more moderate spin reduction.
View Product
THE BASICS: Rounding out the lineup is GT4 for golfers seeking to shed spin. When the heavier 11-gram weight is situated in the front, launch and spin are reduced. If the numbers dip to uncomfortable levels, simply place the 3-gram weight in the same location and place the heavier weight in the rear to increase launch and spin. Similar to previous 4 models, the head is slightly smaller at 430cc. | Read full review here
