Best Golf Mid Layers 2025
Glenmuir Dalry Crewneck

With the vast majority of second (or mid) layers appearing in half-zip and synthetic fibre construction, it is refreshing to see a slightly different, dare I say old-fashioned, look from Glenmuir with the Dalry, a lightweight crew neck jumper, constructed from 100% combed cotton.
It comes in a choice of three different colours. All of them look pretty stylish, with a handsome birdseye pattern on the front, with contrasting detail on the crew neck and cuffs.
I have worn it just as a second layer, over a polo. It is comfortable and offers a different look from most mid- layers. It doesn’t have the strongest thermal properties, so may lack the flexibility of use in our variable UK climate. But I think it makes a stylish addition to your golfing wardrobe for the warmer months.
PROS:
- Stylish and individual look.
- Constructed from natural fibres.
- Good colour choice.
CONS:
- Not for colder days.

RRP: £90
Sizes: XS-XL
Colours: Light Grey Marl/Lagoon, Navy/white, Light Blue/White.

Stitch Hudson ¼ Zip

The Hudson 1/4 Zip from Stitch is a high-quality product, and perfect as a second layer when out on the golf course. It is very soft to the touch, made from a mix of polyester and spandex. That combination also makes it breathable, while the material is moisture-wicking or both rain and sweat in the summer.
Both the wrists and waist band are cuffed to provide a tight fit, meaning the wind shouldn’t be a factor either. The Stitch logo is along the neck collar, with the brand’s ‘S’ also on view on the left sleeve. It also comes in four different colours, including grey and navy.
However, the price point – especially in the UK – puts the Stitch Hudson 1/4 Zip up there with the premium brands, and can it fight against those?
PROS:
- Comfortable
- Nice colour options
CONS:
- Price puts it with the big boys

Stitch Scout ¼ Zip

This stitch ¾ zip top is a excellent choice for the cooler months at the beginning and end of the season. The top is certainly a premium priced product however it does feel like a quality made product when put on. It is made of a mixture if polyester and spandex which gives it a stretchy tight fit feeling, I found in the large this felt like a snug fit but not too tight.
It is light weight which means it’s perfect to wear or pack in your golf bag without weighing you down like some of the winter apparel might. It can be worn as a mid layer and works effectively at giving some warmth whilst allowing free movement.
PROS:
- Classic style
- Quality material
- Unrestrictive

Calvin Klein Atlantic Hybrid Half Zip

Calvin Klein are known for their premium golf wear and it is fair to say they have worked their magic again here. The Atlantic hybrid half zip is a fantastic mid layer option for both on and off course use due to its modern styling. I personally love a fleece-styled mid layer and can 100% see myself wearing this casually day-to-day.
I have reviewed a few Calvin Klein golf products and what is noticeable is how soft the material is. Despite summer fast approaching it can still get a little chilly out of the golf course and this fleece mid layer is a great option for when those temperatures drop on an evening round of golf after work. Additionally, it is also very practical offering full athletic stretch through the golf swing.
PROS:
- Perfect for everyday use
- Looks great
- A comfortable fit

Stuburt Grouse Hoodie

As part of Stubert’s 2025 Spring/Summer release, they have released the Grouse Men’s golf hoody. A smart looking golf hoody available in four colourways, green, blue, grey and black. I got to test the green version which admittedly I wasn’t sure on when seeing it online but I have to say seeing it in the flesh it looked really good. The hoody was extremely comfortable and the fit is brilliant for playing golf in. It sits slightly on the long side which I prefer for playing golf in as it doesn’t rise up all the time when you’re swinging. The hood also isn’t too big that it swings around your neck/head when you hit your shot which is also quite annoying! The design is really simple and therefore smart with only a couple of branding spots of Stuburt, you could quite easily where this off the course as well.
The Grouse hoody is one of my favourite items this year and to say it is available for only £40 (at the time of writing) it could well be the golf apparel bargain of 2025 in my opinion! If you need a stock up of layers for your golf attire this summer, look no further.
PROS:
- Great price point
- Smart
- Comfortable
CONS:
Sorry, no prices available at this time.
RRP: £36.95
Sizes: M-XL
Colours: Ash, navy and mist

Stuburt Crane Pullover

The Crane Sweater from Stuburt is a great piece of clothing, one that can be worn in many settings. Although a pullover, the Crane Sweater still allows for full freedom of movement, whilst also being incredible comfortable thanks to the thickness and material used. That thickness does mean it can get warm through the summer months, but it remains a comfy product. The neck, cuffs and hem are all ribbed to keep it well-fitted, while the Stuburt logo is on show on both the right sleeve and at the top of the back.
Unlike a lot of golf gear these days, the Stuburt Crane Sweater can certainly be worn off the course, whether as a comfy piece around the house, or even to go out for dinner. That certainly adds to its charm. It is also less than £40, making it a very attractive option.
PROS:
- Comfortable
- Sleek, simple design
- Could be worn off course
CONS:
- Quite thick for summer months

RRP: £36.95

Puma Waffle Fleece ¼ zip

The PUMA Fleece Golf Quarter-Zip is an interesting piece of golf clothing. If you are looking for a completely inoffensive layer that will both keep you warm and is suitable for a game of golf in the Spring and Summer, then you will not have any complaints with this. The design is solid and there is a good range of colours to choose from which you’d think would meet the favour of most golfers.
This fleece is roomy and comfortable, so there are many boxes ticked. I wouldn’t say it’s outside of the box or extravagant, but this might suit golfers who aren’t looking to make a statement when they rock up to the Sunday medal.
PROS:
- Very solid and basic design
- Range of different colours
- Comfortable and roomy
CONS:
- Some golfers might want something more adventurous

Puma Cloudspun Tech Hoodie

Golf hoodies are brilliant and the sooner everyone accepts this, the better. The PUMA Cloudspun Tech Hoodie is very comfortable and skinny fitting. Like many of PUMA’s polos, it is light and complimentary to performance. It doesn’t get in your way, and it allows you to swing freely which, in my opinion, is the number one feature of any long sleeve golf garment. The white colour which I have feels fresh and gets me in a bright, summery mood. You can feel the ultra-soft Cloudspun fabric which is built in for superior feel and performance. It has 4-way stretch fabric with moisture-wicking technology to make you feel the best you can on the golf course.
PROS:
- Very light and comfortable
- White colour is aesthetically pleasing
- Compliments your game with performance fit
CONS:
- Some golfers still can’t see past golf hoodies

Callaway Emea Long Sleeve Odyssey Sweater

The Emea Odyssey 1/4 Zip Sweater is a high-quality product, at a mid-range price. The product is made from ‘soft touch brushed knit fabric’, making it comfortable and warm, while also breathable if the temperature rises. Although it is well-fitted, it does not restrict movement, making it perfect for the golf swing.
The design, which features a line of colour on the front across the zip, also features Opti-Dri cooling, which offers moisture wicking performance, along with UPF 50+ UV protection – perfect for the summer months. There is an Odyssey logo on the right sleeve, thanks to the collaboration between Callaway and Odyssey. It also comes in a number of colours, including white/navy and navy/white, and at just £50, it is a great price.

Original Penguin Long Sleeve Performance Earl

My golfing wardrobe is full of golf hoodies. I only tend to really wear hoodies or thin, hooded jackets as an extra layer of warmth out on the golf course. I know some people disagree with their suitability on the golf course, but I simply can’t get enough of them. This Original Penguin performance-based option is a really solid option. Its lightweight nature makes it ideal for spring and summer when it starts to heat up.
Moisture wicking properties are also equipped in this base layer golf top to keep you dry and sweat free in warmer conditions. Additionally, the added stretch material allows for optimal comfort with a flexible fit. I like the simplistic style Original Penguin have adopted and wouldn’t be against using it off the course too.

- Supreme comfort
- Lightweight for great freedom of movement
- Looks great

Original Penguin Crew Neck Midlayer

As part of Original Penguin’s 2025 S/S releases this year, they have brought out the crew neck midlayer as part of the line up. I am a huge fan of this product, it is a really clean design with only a couple of Original Penguin branding sites and some breathable materials down the side panels which keeps the crew neck looking really smart.
Practicality wise it is also very good, the layer doesn’t fit too snug or too loose which makes for a comfortable round and an easy golf swing movement whilst keeping that little bit warmer. This is definitely one of my favourite items from all of the launches this year, really smart, comfortable and an ideal option for out on the golf course.

- Comfortable
- Smart design
- Water repellent and breathable

Sorry, no prices available at this time.
RRP: £75.00

Adidas BTC Pullover

I love a good jumper. I am someone who would favour a jumper or a hoodie over a quarter zip any day of the week. The Beyond Modal Pullover from Adidas has quickly become a go-to for me, and that’s not just on the golf course. I have had plenty of Adidas golf clothing over the years and they rarely disappoint, and they haven’t here either.
Equipped with athletic styling and, like with some many of their mid layers, stretch fabric this is a joy to wear out on the golf course. I was able to command a full and free range of movement for quality performance. If this takes your fancy, then Adidas have it available as a set with some golf joggers to complete your spring look.

- Athletic, casual styling
- Comfortable and lightweight
- High quality

Under Armour Men’s Matchplay Quarter Zip Golf Mid Layer

I think quarter zips are very much the bread and butter of golf clothing. The weather can often be unpredictable so it’s important to layer up appropriately even during spring and summer. I have owned and tested plenty of mid layers and this offering from Under Armour had plenty of the desirable qualities that make a great quarter zip.
It is very versatile; I would be just as happy wearing this casually or even to the gym as I would on the golf course. Additionally, it is ideal for summer use. Under Armour have equipped the Matchplay quarter zip golf mid layer skin protection capabilities with the UPF 50 technology working to protect the skin from harmful sun rays.
