“The appeal of the Athletes Proximity iron classification remains to increase as even more golf players look for faster rates coming from an iron along with a blade-style appearance,” pointed out John K. Solheim, PING CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER & Head of state. “There’s a lot of technology in the i540 iron. Tungsten sole weighting lowers the centre of gravity and, combined with the forged maraging-steel face, produces faster ball speeds. We’ve also applied inR-Air technology to improve feel and sound. It’s an air pocket behind the face that attenuates frequencies, leading to a better impact experience. On the outside, the covered cavity design creates a clean, high-tech appearance.
“It’s a great fit for the golfer whose top priority is distance. The i540 also offers a level of forgiveness not typically found in distance irons. It looks great, feels great and will lead to lower scores and more enjoyment on the course.”
Players Distance With Stopping Power
Distance gains come from multiple sources. Tungsten sole weighting in the 4-7 irons lowers the centre of gravity, increasing ball speed. The forged, flexible maraging-steel C300 face is welded to a 17-4 stainless-steel body, creating a metalwood-like bend for faster speeds and higher max height for stopping power. CG-optimised lofts and three configurations (Standard, Power, Retro) allow golfers to optimise launch conditions during custom fitting.
“The i540 brings more control to a distance iron,” said Solheim. “It appeals to golfers seeking more distance while preferring the size and look of a player is actually iron. Blade enthusiasts will appreciate the thin topline, narrow sole and shallow face height. The i540 combines speed and precision into a very attractive design.”
inR-Air Technology
The i540 incorporates inR-Air innovation, first introduced in the iDi driving iron, using an air pocket behind the face to attenuate undesirable frequencies and also boost sense and also noise. An integrated i-Beam structure inside the 17-4 stainless-steel body adds support.
“This type of iron construction always presents sound and feel challenges,” said Solheim. “The wallet of air inside the i540 softens the regularities and improves influence expertise. It’s proven in the iDi driving iron, and also we’re excited to bring it to a full set of irons.”
